The Antelope County Historical Society is the most recent addition to the list of Nebraska Memories participants. Searchers of the Nebraska Memories database can now find a small collection of digitized glass plate negatives from the historical society. These are images of various people, buildings and scenes in and around Neligh and Antelope County. The Society’s photograph collection is continually expanding and they hope to have about 200 pictures of historical significance digitized and available through Nebraska Memories.

The Antelope County Historical Society in Neligh, in partnership with the Raymond A. Whitwer Tilden Public Library in northeast Nebraska, received an LSTA grant for the digitization of a collection of large (4x6 to 8x10) glass plate negatives.

Delegates examine future of OCLC services, governance as membership broadens worldwide

OCLC Members Council met May 20-22 in Dublin, Ohio, to discuss the values of the cooperative and how well the OCLC governance structure, products and services are meeting the current and future needs of its members.

Members Council also elected new leaders for the next session, and bid farewell to Phyllis Spies, a senior OCLC manager who participated in 80 Members Council meetings before her retirement this month.

At the conclusion of the meeting, OCLC Members Council President Ernie Ingles, Vice-Provost and Chief Librarian, University of Alberta, OCLC Canada, passed the gavel to Sandy Yee, Dean of Libraries, Wayne State University, who will serve as Members Council President for 2007/2008.

Loretta Parham, CEO and Library Director, Robert W. Woodruff Library of the Atlanta University Center (Clark Atlanta University, Interdenominational Theological Center, Morehouse College, Spelman College), representing SOLINET, was elected Vice President/President-Elect.

This collection contains a selection of original Civil War correspondence between soldiers from the battlefields and their family members and friends on the home front. These letters describe firsthand accounts of battle, reflections on the nature of war and its profound effect on those involved.

Gulf Coast Community College Memory Collection
Gulf Coast Community College
The Gulf Coast Community College digital archives contain historical photographs, monographs, newspaper articles, and documents covering the history of the institution. The Memory Collection is funded by a Gulf Coast Community College Foundation Mini-Grant and managed by the library.

Images d'aménagement (Environmental Design Images)

This collection presents a selection of 3,430 images related to three academic disciplines (architecture, landscape architecture, urbanism) served by the Landscape and Architecture Branch Library. One can find in this collection images of the architectural heritage of the cities of Outremont and Montreal, of Montreal's "underground city", of Canadian gardens created since the 17th century, of most renowned English parks and gardens designed in the 18th century, and, finally, of Chinese parks and gardens.

These are just a few of the many outstanding digital collections created by CONTENTdm users.

The NEBASE Hour is a FREE, monthly, online information session on OCLC products and services. The NEBASE Hour is held on the first Wednesday of the month, from 11:00 am-12:00 noon (Central Time) unless otherwise noted.

The NEBASE Hour is a live presentation, available at no cost, that you will access from your own computer via the Web. Audio is available via Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). You may ask any questions you have during the session. The session will be recorded for anyone who may want to see it again or who cannot attend it at the scheduled time. IMPORTANT: Please note that we are using new web conferencing software - Centra. Please read the information below this announcement for details about technical requirements and procedures for accessing live online sessions through Centra.

NEBASE Hour for July 2007: Streamline Your OCLC ILL with Custom Holdings & Direct Request

July 11, 2007 - 11:00am-12:00pm (Central Time) Registration Deadline: July 9

Custom Holdings allows an OCLC ILL library to set up automatic borrowing strings, eliminating the need for analyzing lenders on a request-by-request basis. Direct Request uses your Custom Holdings to automate the ILL borrowing process, letting you control the process electronically just as you do now manually.

Attend this session to learn how to design, create, update and use multiple Custom Holding paths and Direct Request profiles.

The session will be conducted by Christa Burns, OCLC Member Services Coordinator for NEBASE. Participants will receive 1 hour of CE credit. There is no cost to participate in this session.

INTRODUCING CENTRA LIVE! This Online Session will be conducted using Centra Live web conferencing software. For this reason it is crucial that you review the Centra Live technical requirements and perform the recommended Centra system check even if you've successfully attended previous Nebraska Library Commission Online Sessions. (Previous sessions used Genesys and Live Meeting software.) Please do this several days in advance of your scheduled session so you have plenty of time to update your system if necessary. Technical requirements (including a link to the system check) and general access instructions are available on the Nebraska Library Commission Online Sessions webpage.

AUDIO NOTE: Audio for Centra Live online sessions will be handled via Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology, as opposed to a telephone conference call. This means access to a telephone is not required. However, in order to hear the presentation attendees must be using a computer with a sound card and speakers. To ask questions and participate in class discussion, attendees will also need a microphone. If you don't have a microphone for your computer, you may request one from the Nebraska Library Commission by emailing Jeannette Powell at least a week in advance of your session. If only one individual is attending the session from a particular computer, a headset may be used in place of the speakers and microphone.

In February 2007, the OCLC Board of Trustees authorized a review of OCLC’s governance structure. The review will evaluate current and alternative governance forms for OCLC as it becomes an increasingly global cooperative.

The review is being facilitated by The Higher Education Consultancy Group (HECG) based in the United Kingdom, and will be supervised by a governance study committee consisting of current and past trustees and delegates to Members Council. The committee will recommend a governance structure appropriate to the roles that OCLC is expected to carry out in the next decade.

To ensure wide consultation for the study, the Board, OCLC management and HECG are seeking contributions from librarians throughout the library community.

If you are interested, send your contribution to Allan Schofield by July 20, 2007. Submissions will be treated in confidence unless respondents indicate that they are happy for committee members to see their comments. It is important that responses be solely about issues relevant to governance; the consultants are not seeking submissions on broader issues outside their terms of reference, such as OCLC services.

WorldCat.org has been enhanced with a social-networking feature: Users across the Web can now add individual items cataloged in WorldCat to personalized lists. They can group items owned by your library and other WorldCat libraries, and share their lists with friends, colleagues and millions of site users.

Users can add any book, video, article or another item to a list right from its WorldCat record, or use the checkboxes and "Save to" button in WorldCat search results.

Library users can build as many lists as they like on any subject

They can make lists for every purpose—personal or professional, educational or recreational. Some ideas:

• Movies I want to check out
• Mystery novels I recommend
• Research sources to review for my paper
• Excellent children’s books
• Best CD’s for learning about jazz

Share lists with friends and the world

Lists can be public—which allows other WorldCat users to search for and discover them—or private so only the list author can view them. (A list's privacy is easily changed by following its "Settings" link.) And a public list can be shared with anyone, regardless of whether they've used WorldCat before: The "Share" link lets a list author send an invitation via e-mail.

Easy to manage and export

List items can be added or removed at any time, and items can even be copied between lists. Users can also:

• Reorder a list by title, author, publish date or date added to the list
• Save a short note for each added item
• Export a list in CSV (comma-delimited) format

The ability to export a list in common citation styles to bibliographic-software formats, including EndNote and RefWorks, will be added soon.

WorldCat profiles have expanded

A WorldCat user's online profile now allows them to provide greater detail about their interests and occupation; link to any WorldCat lists they have created; and link to a personal Web page, RSS feed or instant messaging address. Providing this personal information is optional, and the user can still control the public availability of their e-mail address or their entire profile in the privacy settings for their account.

Export bibliographic citations from WorldCat records

Individual WorldCat records now include the option to export a bibliographic citation for the item. Citations can be saved in two popular formats: EndNote and RefWorks. Look for the "Export" links next to the "Cite this Item" link. (Enhanced export capabilities will be available soon.)
