COPYRIGHT MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP MAY 4

Rina Pantalony, Legal Counsel for the Canadian Heritage Information Network (CHIN) will present Basic Copyright Management on May 4 at The Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln. Library staff and participants in the Nebraska Memories project are encouraged to attend this event.

The full-day Basic Copyright Management workshop is intended to introduce participants to issues surrounding copyright for digital materials, and to provide resources for further exploration.

Topics include: basics of copyright issues, including the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, ownership, public domain, and privacy issues; how digital primary source materials differ from traditional materials; intellectual property analysis to determine copyright status; permissions issues and institutional risk tolerance; and developing institutional policies for digital materials. The course includes discussion and case studies to help participants apply concepts to real-life situations.

NEBASE WORKSHOP CALENDAR

NEBASE workshops have been scheduled for Lincoln, Omaha, and Hastings.

*NEBASE libraries are Nebraska libraries who use OCLC cataloging or interlibrary loan services or who subscribe to FirstSearch. Although libraries who subscribe only to FirstSearch are eligible to pay the $10 workshop fee, they must pay by check.

OPPOSING VIEWPOINTS GROUP SUBSCRIPTION DISCOUNT AND TRIAL

The Nebraska Library Commission and Gale are working to provide a further discounted price for those libraries interested in subscribing to the Opposing Viewpoints database.

Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center (OVRC) draws on the acclaimed social issues series published by Greenhaven Press, as well as core reference content from other Thomson Gale and Macmillan Reference USA sources, including selections from Bioethics for Students. The result is a dynamic online library of current event topics-the facts, as well as the arguments, of each topic's proponents and detractors. OVRC's unique features include Topic Overviews-frameworks that allow students to explore each topic's many facets-and exclusive electronic access to Thomson Gale's Information Plus reference series of statistics, government data, information on legislation and more.

A minimum of 10% will be discounted for a group subscription to Opposing Viewpoints. The discount will reflect the number of subscribers and subscription cycle.

For the month of March, Gale is providing trial access to the Gale resource. Access information for the trial was sent out over the TRIAL mailing list on February 28.

At the end of the trial libraries will be surveyed for interest in subscriptions, please contact the Network Services department at that time if interested in joining the Opposing Viewpoints group.

WEBSEARCH UNIVERSITY CONFERENCE DISCOUNT

LATEST NEWS FROM SERIALS SOLUTIONS

Serials Solutions has just released another access solution called Central Search. Central Search, Serials Solutions' new federated search engine allows patrons and librarians to search a wide range of disparate digital resources from a single, easy-to-use interface.
