Current Contents takes the table of contents, bibliographic information and abstracts from more than 7,000 international research journals and 1,700 books annually. Current Contents covers 250 disciplines in the sciences, the social sciences, and the arts and humanities. It covers current and retrospective data including 300 million references cited in 24 million source items. Electric Library: Electric Library is the most comprehensive and easiest-to-use online reference tool for researchers of all ages. Encyclopedia Britannica:(Static IP address is required.) Encyclopedia Britannica is a collection of references that are fully searchable and browsable. The collection includes Britannica's latest article database, hundreds of articles not found in the print Britannica, Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary, the Britannica Book of the Year, and thousands of links to other World Wide Web sites.

Newsbank: Newsbank is a leading publisher of original research material and the largest provider of newspapers on CD-ROM.

African American Biographical Database (Chadwyck-Healey): is a landmark resource for African-American studies, including genealogy, covering over 40,000 biographical sketches of 30,000 African-Americans. Drawn from over 350 monographs and other sources, the initial file will cover 1790-1950. Based on Chadwyck-Healey's acclaimed Black Biographical Dictionaries and updated with additional new entries bimonthly--10,000 additional entries within the first year--AABD will continually grow, with records from the Tuskegee and Hampton collections and links to further Web resources coming in early 1998. The database is searchable by name, occupation, place of birth, date of birth and death, and will allow for full-text search of the files.
 
Cambridge Scientific Abstracts: provides information to keep you current in major areas of scientific research - every important scientific development, as reported in published literature worldwide, is easily available.
 
Congressional Compass (Congressional Universe) (CIS): is the most comprehensive Web-based source for information from and about the United States Congress. This service provides the indexing and abstracts of the CIS/Index to congressional working papers and legislation from the last 25 years. Congressional Compass also gives students and other researchers access to a wide variety of information about Congress including member biographical and committee assignment information, voting records, financial data, and the full text of the Congressional Record. In addition, access is provided to the full text of key regulatory and statutory resources. There are Hot Topics and Hot Bills features on controversial current issues and legislative proposals. Designed with students in mind, Congressional Compass is easy to use, even for novice users, and it offers both keyword searching and extensively cross-referenced vocabulary. Detailed help is available for using the service as well as for understanding the legislative process and different types of congressional documents. Students and professors can access Congressional Compass from libraries, dorm rooms, and offices--wherever a computer is linked to the campus network. There are no limits on connect time or simultaneous users.

Health Reference Center (IAC):
is a one-stop, multi-source reference center for health and wellness research. An HIRC Award winner, Health Reference Center integrates a greater variety of current, full text sources than any competing database: medical journals, consumer health magazines, health newsletters, reference books, referral information, topical overviews, pamphlets, and newspaper articles. Designed especially for lay research, Health Reference Center provides unrivaled depth and breadth of information in terms that everyone can understand. InfoTrac's powerful, intuitive search features make it easy to link between different source types and pinpoint relevant informational in one self-service process. And with its regular updates, Health Reference Center makes it easy to offer the most current, reliable health information available.

Health Reference Center-Academic (IAC): This full text, multi-source database provides single-search access to the wide variety of health information sources in Health Reference Center plus 40 full text nursing and allied health journals. Health Reference Center--Academic integrates the full text of respected nursing, allied health, and medical journals; consumer health magazines; reference books; newsletters; pamphlets; newspaper articles; referral information; and topical overviews. And with InfoTrac's intuitive linking between sources, users can quickly find the information they need, all in the privacy of a self-service reference system.

Health Source Plus (EBSCO): offers coverage of general health magazines as well as professional health care journals. This reference database features: searchable full text for over 200 titles including The New England Journal of Medicine (CD-ROM only) and The Lancet, covering nearly 150,000 articles; abstracts and indexing for nearly 500 general health, nutrition, and professional health care titles, covering over 400,000 articles; USP Pharmacopoeia DI: Volume II Advice for the Lay Patient; and searchable full text for nearly 1,000 health-related pamphlets.
 
¡Informe! (Revistas en Español) (IAC): is the first reference database to provide indexing, full text, and images of the most popular Hispanic magazines. It also includes full text pamphlets on a variety of topics, such as health care. Not only that, Informe's Spanish thesaurus and interface were created especially for Spanish speakers, based on InfoTrac's well known user interface. ¡Informe! also features bilingual citations to help non-Spanish speaking staff, or students of Spanish, navigate easily through the database.

International Index to Music Periodicals (Chadwyck-Healey):
IIMP draws its current content from more than 350 international music periodicals from over 20 countries, and also indexes feature music articles and obituaries appearing in The New York Times and The Washington Post. IIMP covers nearly all aspects of the world of music, from the most scholarly studies to the latest crazes. See the Title List for periodicals included. Literature Online (Chadwyck-Healey ): combines hundreds of thousands of fully-searchable texts, with reference works, bibliographies and catalogues on a single site, and provides hypertext links to relevant resources on other websites.
 
Omaha World Herald:(UMI) access the full text of the paper using UMI's ProQuest Direct.
 
PolicyFile (Chadwyck-Healey): collects data from world renowned public policy think tanks including the American Enterprise Institute, Brookings Institution, Cato Institute, Center for Strategic and International Studies, Economic Strategy Institute, Heritage Foundation, Hoover Institute, Hudson Institute, International Monetary Fund, RAND Corporation, Urban Institute and the World Bank; university research program and publishers. Dozens of sources are combined to provide the user with a database of thousands of abstracts, fully searchable and linked via the World Wide Web.
 
SIRS Researcher (Social Issues Resource Series (SIRS)): is a general database containing thousands of full-text articles exploring social, scientific, historic, economic, political, and global issues. Articles are carefully selected from more than 1,200 domestic and international newspapers, magazines, journals, and government publications. Brief summaries accompany all articles added to the database since 1994. It will be available directly from SIRS,via IAC, and via OCLC FirstSearch.

TOPICsearch (EBSCO): Explore social, political and economic issues, scientific discoveries and other popular topics discussed in today's classrooms with TOPICsearch. This current events database includes: 40,000 full text documents carefully selected by our staff of librarians and teachers, 2,500 diverse sources including international and regional newspapers, EBSCO's unparalleled periodicals collection, biographies, public opinion polls, book reviews, pamphlets, government information and EBSCO's Current Issues database.

Summer '98 Trial Databases:

LifeCenter - 7/1/98-7/31/98

LifeCenter is an interactive WEB based research tool for the most frequently asked reference questions; whether a library user is shopping for a car, writing a resume, buying a refrigerator, or looking to enter the work of mutual funds, LifeCenter will answer approximately 90% of the questions your reference desk gets. At least it will be a good start! LifeCenter filters out most of the junk on the Web today and organizes the rest to make the library users search with more relevancy. LifeCenter organizes the Web into areas that users can readily understand and uses pathways that are logical.

Book Review Digest is a bibliographic database that cites and provides excerpts of reviews of current English-language fiction and nonfiction books. A summary of the book is also provided. This database indexes reviews from more than 89 leading periodicals published in the United States, Canada, and Great Britain.

Index to Legal Periodicals indexes the content of a line-up of periodicals from the United States, Great Britain, Canada, and Australia-- plus approximately 1,000 monographs per year -- to meet the research needs of attorneys, law professors, librarians, law students, paralegals, and others involved with the law.

Library Literature covers 234 key journals (in English and other languages) and more than 600 individual books a year. Individual book chapters are also indexed. It includes conference proceedings, selected state journals, and library school theses. Topics include censorship, public relations, preservation, copyright legislation, automation, cataloging and classification, and electronic searching.

NoveList is an online readers' advisory tool that helps readers find new books based on books they've read or topics in which they are interested. Readers enter a title or author they like, or describe a book they would like to read, and NoveList finds books in its database with matching subject headings.

Poem Finder is the largest, most comprehensive and most current poetry database available. It is international in scope, and covers poetry from antiquity to the present. It is a one-stop resource for locating more than a 1/2 million poems.

Wilson Biographies offers the quality of Wilson editorial standards, comprehensive coverage of over 38,000 figures from antiquity to the present, plus searchability by name, profession, place of origin, gender, race/ethnicity, date of birth, keyword. What’s more, the database grows by 800 to 1,000 figures per annual update.

World Book Online articles are designed to meet the reference and study needs of students of all ages. This thoroughly researched information has been augmented by thousands of full-color photographs and illustrations, detailed and engaging video and animations, hundreds of sounds, 3-D virtual experiences, a complete atlas, links to thousands of editor-approved web sites, and links to current articles from several leading periodicals.

  • MAS Ultra Online Package - EBSCO's high school database providing over 530 full text magazines designed for high school students. This Package also includes Health Source Plus, which consists of over 260 full text health-related magazines; Newspaper Source, with selected full text for 114 newspapers including Omaha World-Herald (business news ONLY); TOPICsearch, which explores social, political, and economic issues as well as scientific discoveries; and ERIC, a resource created by the Educational Resource Information Center. Includes unlimited and remote access.
  • Middle Search Plus - A database of more than 80 full text magazines and indexing and abstracts for over 180 magazines. It also contains over 1,100 Essential Documents of American History; coverage of the CIA World Factbook (including maps of the most countries in the world); coverage of USA Today; Funk & Wagnall's New Encyclopedia and much more. Includes unlimited and remote access.
  • Primary Search - A database designed for the young researcher with over fifty full text magazines geared toward the elementary school student. It also includes two World Almanac books; over 1,100 Essential Documents of American History; Funk and Wagnall's New Encyclopedia and coverage of the CIA World Factbook (including maps of most countries in the world). Coming this spring, Searchasaurus, a kid-friendly interface. Includes unlimited and remote access.

Gale Group - The trial included access to databases such as: Contemporary Authors, Contemporary Literary Criticism Select, Dictionary of Literary Biography, Literature Resource Center, What Do I Read Next, Expanded Academic ASAP, and General Reference Center Gold.

H.W. Wilson - The trial included access to Wilson OmniFile Full Text Select and Wilson Biographies Plus.

Please note: The Omaha World Herald and USA Today are not standard titles in this package; however, they were included in the package for the duration of the trial.

Well-Connected (Nidus Information Services) is a patient library that covers over 100 in-depth topics on the latest medical information for patients and consumers who are interested in their health. Each report is written and regularly updated by experienced medical writers and reviewed by a physician board at Harvard Medical School. All reports are updated at least once over the course of each year.

The service provides in-depth technical information for the technical student as well as easy-to-understand titles on basic tools such as Microsoft Word for the non-technical student. To keep current, ITKnowledge regularly adds new titles and publishers to its service. As of today, four of the publisher relationships are exclusive.

Facts on File Online Databases - Facts On File Online Databases are currently divided into two distinct ranges, comprehensive On-line Encyclopedias and On File™ On-line Databases. Chilton's Auto Library - Chilton's Auto Library incorporates 16 years of automobile information dating back to 1985.  The Web-based database, available by annual subscription, allows users to pinpoint repair and maintenance information for specific automobile models and years.  Repair information for each model is organized into such categories as: general information and maintenance, engine electrical, engine and engine overhaul, emission controls, fuel systems, chassis electrical, drive train, suspension and steering, brakes, and body and trim.  In addition, Chilton's Auto Library provides access to some 50,000 technical service bulletins, maintenance schedules and specification charts, complete wiring diagrams (including some 60,000 diagrams), and labor time estimates.

Documents from 1996 forward are available through the Base Subscription. Ulrich's Periodical Directory - ulrichsweb.com, the online version of Ulrich's Periodicals Directory, is a bibliographic database providing detailed, comprehensive, and authoritative information on serials published throughout the world. It covers all subjects, and includes publications that are published regularly or irregularly and are circulated free of charge or by paid subscription. The web version contains several new searchable and browseable indexes, such as language and frequency, that are not available in the print version. On the web version, users can link to related serials for alternate titles and related media titles, as well as tens of thousands of URLs, and e-mail addresses. The web version is designed to handle complex combined searching. PriceMiner is the most up-to-date, innovative research tool for the art, antiques and collectibles market developed by GoAntiques.com. With more than 16 million records and 8 million pictures covering 5,200 categories and subcategories, it is used as both a price guide and an identification guide.

Records from eBay.com, GoAntiques.com and TIAS.com are aggregated to offer the most complete guide of its kind. eBay records date back to the first of this year, compared to the 15 days of records you can search on eBay's site. GoAntiques and TIAS records go back to 1998. PriceMiner currently adds about a million records every two months.
